Update 09-0114, 20.30De tekst van de uitnodiging van het congres in Brussel: ‘EORTC is pleased to invite you to join health care providers, pharmaceutical industry representatives, bankers and insurers, governmental agencies, politicians and payers, physicians, nurses, psychologists and social workers, patients and patient advocacy groups to discuss the specific needs of cancer survivors. A cancer diagnosis was once a death sentence. Many patients are now successfully treated. Cancer patients are becoming cancer survivors. We need to address not just problems such as late toxicity and secondary tumors, generally viewed as the domain of medical professionals, but also the wide variety of societally significant issues related to jobs, life insurance, mortgages, etc.’ De diagnose kanker was ooit een ter dood veroordeling. Maar kankerpatiënten worden inderdaad steeds vaker kankeroverlevers. Probleem is dat dat nog niet is doorgedrongen tot de maatschappij en al helemaal niet tot verzekeraars. Terwijl je toch zou verwachten en hopen dat ze juist daar actuele kennis over zoiets hebben. Daarom heb ik besloten patient advocate te worden en ga ik naar Brussel.
